This is the second year that our Cool Down network of sports people working for a sustainable future have held a competition to find the winner of the “Bad Sport Award”. Members of the public were encouraged to nominate activity they thought brought the sporting world into polluting disrepute, such as sponsorship by fossil fuel companies, unnecessary flying when greener transport is an option, and other damaging high-carbon behaviour. Sadly, there were plenty of polluters to choose from, but the winners by a carbon mile were Saudi Arabia with a staggering display of disregard for climate change and an obvious love of greenwashing.
