Is your business ready for the 1.5 climate target?

27 September 2019 at 2:00PM - 27 September 2019 at 5:00PM

Carbon Trust, 4th Floor, Dorset House, 27-45 Stamford Street London SE1 9NT

Is your business wanting to help in the transition to a zero carbon economy? Come to this event to share your experience, network and learn from others in a safe space for reflection and engagement about the challenges of rapid transition for business.

The United Nations IPCC report on 1.5 degrees, released last October, left little room for doubt about the need for rapid transitions in business and across society if catastrophic levels of climate change are to be avoided. It also pulled few punched about the scale of change, calling for ‘transformative, systemic change’. So where does this leave business? How are firms responding to this critical challenge and what else needs to be done? Who, if anyone, has worked out what being compliant with the 1.5°target actually looks like?

The purpose of this meeting hosted by the Rapid Transition Alliance is to start a conversation about the role of business in rapid transitions focused on:

  1. Who is doing what to align corporate strategies with a 1.5° pathway? What are the issues, challenges and key innovations emerging?
  2. How do we involve business in this debate, learning from and sharing positive examples of rapid change and building alliances with other actors in society?
  3. What would a positive intervention look like?

Attendees will be sent a short paper containing more background and some key questions for discussion.

The meeting will he held under Chatham House rules to enable frank and free exchange.
